| There
are many controversies in casino gaming, including
which games to play, how to play them, and for how
long they should be played. There are so many "gaming
experts" out there-geniuses, liars, madmen
(depends on who you talk to)-that it is a wonder
that the casino industry keeps making such enormous
profits.
There is also the oldest of gaming controversies
concerning whether you should risk your money on
the vicissitudes of fortune. Should the tax-paying
citizens of our wonderful country be allowed to
risk their money on games of chance? People and
politicians have lined up on either side of this
controversy. Since you're reading this book, there's
a good chance that you've philosophically decided:
It's our money! We can do what we want with it.
You might be a more aggressive and less cowardly
player than we are. The fear of losing a large portion
of your bankroll during a short period of play may
not upset you as much as it does me. Perhaps you
have nerves of steel. If this is the case, your
money management principles may differ greatly from
mine.
However, we believe that more people are on the
conservative side than are on the nerves-of-steel
side of the temperament scale. Most people see those
gaming chips for what they are-money-often hard-earned,
that could be lost on the next roll of the dice,
the next flip of the card, or the next pull of the
handle.
