If you simply
do the opposite of what the casino president stated,
you'll be a winner. In other words, if you're
winning, don't get greedy, but leave with most
of your profits intact. If losing, instead of
taking out more money in a vain attempt to get
even, limit your losses to the single-session
bankroll and walk away from the table. Do those
two things when gambling and you'll be smarter
than 99 percent of all gamblers.
You must never, and I repeat, never reach into
your pocket for more cash after you've lost your
single session bankroll. That's the time to take
a stroll. Do anything else but gamble. Go for
a swim, rest in your room, have coffee, but don't
keep gambling. In that way you won't get really
hurt at any one session of play. This requires
self-control, so make certain that you've trained
yourself to have this control before you do any
serious gambling.
When you're winning, and you will by following
the methods outlined in this book, leave the table
a winner. Always quit a winner, is the old adage
of the smart gambler. If you're ahead twenty chips,
at that moment tell yourself, I'm going to leave
with 10 of them as my profit. Don't ever put them
into play or in any way jeopardize them at the
table. If they're $5 chips, you've got $50 profit;
if $25 chips you've got $250, and if they're $100
chips, you've just made $1,000 for a single session
of play. What's wrong with that kind of score?
When playing a fast moving game like craps, self-control
often involves going against the mob at the table
and believing in your own methods of play. Sometimes,
during a hot roll, there's an awful temptation
to really sock in the bets on all kinds of outrageous
wagers, buying the 4 and 10, for example, or betting
heavy money on the 5 and 9 as place numbers, giving
the house 4 percent over you. Resist those temptations
and stick with the correct come bets, raising
them continuously.
The vast majority of craps players, even the really
high rollers, the so-called smart players, play
a stupid game that dooms them to defeat. They
bet pass line, cover all the place numbers, and
pray for a hot roll. Don't pray for anything at
the table except for patience and self-control,
and pray that these two things don't desert you.
The hot roll will come along, and by patient play,
correct money management, and smart bets, you'll
take full advantage of that roll for you'll be
one of the few original players still left at
the table. The others will long since have been
tapped out with their bad bets and inept money
management.
