| Roulette
is, above all, a leisurely games, a games that can
be played while seated, a games in which the spin
of the wheel seems to take forever, in which much
time is spent between resolutions of play. It can
be a very quiet games, for there is little to root
for openly. Most players, unless they're betting
on the even-money chances, have so many chips spread
all over the layout that it's impossible for them
to remember exactly what numbers they've bet on.
Most wagers are random or hunch bets, because the
games is a purely random one.
Winston
Churchill was once asked how he fared at the roulette
wheels at Monte Carlo, for he spent much time on
the French Riviera. He replied that he had done
poorly. When asked why, he responded, "If only
I had bet red instead of black."
Of course, that's how most gamblers at roulette
feel after a loss. If only .if only they had bet
high instead of low, odd instead of even, the second
column instead of the first, and so on, but probably,
if they had bet the other way, the results would
have been the same. The roulette wheel, though kind
to a very few, has been a great leveler and has
separated many from their fortunes.
