| One
never sees a high roller at the big six wheel, for
the simple reason that any astute gambler knows
the wheel is a bad bet. At its best the house edge
is 11 percent, and some bets give the casino double
that advantage over the player.
The wheel therefore attracts unsophisticated, casual
gamblers with some spare dollars in their pockets
who want to have a little gambling fun.
To calculate
the house advantage on eaclrbet, we'll assume a
complete cycle of fifty-four spins and a continual
$1 bet. On the $1 symbol wager, the house will win
30 bets and pay out only 24 times for an 11 percent
advantage. With the $2 symbol, the house will win
39 bets and pay out 15 times at $2 each for a 16.67
percent edge. On the $5 symbol wager, the house
will win 47 times and pay out $35 for the seven
$5 symbols. This gives the casino an advantage of
25.9 percent. With the $10 symbol, the house will
win 50 bets and pay out $40 on its four $10 symbols
for an advantage of 18.5 percent. With the $20 symbols,
the house will win 52 times and will pay out $40
on its two $20 symbols for an edge of 22.2 percent.
On each of the emblem and house symbols, the house
will win 53 times and pay out $40. The casino will
thus have an advantage over the player of 24 percent.
These
house advantages are much too high to make the wheel
a good bet, no matter how little the players invest.
They would be better off wagering on any of the
casino standard table games instead.
In fact, any casino game other than keno gives the
player a better chance to win, so my advice is to
admire the big six wheel in action, especially if
the casino owns one that is antique and ornate,
but don't put good money on it.
