Craps
also offers a much broader spectrum of bets than
does blackjack. Players can bet with or against
the dice, while in twenty-one, players can only
play against the dealer. At craps gamblers can also
make continuous bets with each roll of the dice,
not having to wait for an ultimate decision by the
dealer, as they must in blackjack. Only roulette
offers such a wide variety of bets, but in American
roulette, the house has an unyielding advantage
of at least 5.26 percent on every bet, a much greater
edge than it enjoys in craps.
What intrigues most players, however, is the speed
of craps, and the chance to win a great deal of
money in a short period of play. Since bets may
be made on every roll, and these bets can be won
or lost with each throw of the dice, the opportunity
to win a small fortune in a short period of time
is always there. All players dream of that hot roll,
and when it comes, when points and numbers come
forth in profusion, and the dice are held by one
player anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour and
sometimes longer, the chance to make a killing becomes
a reality.
In no other game can money be won so fast with small
bets, since a right bettor is nearly always paid
off at better than even money: And unlike the other
table games, where once a bet is made it is rigidly
frozen, in craps bets can be raised and altered
after every roll, even without a final decision
being made by the dice. Players on a lucky winning
streak can compound their wins as the roll or shoot
is progressing, something they cannot do in the
other games.
The game can be beaten, for although the house holds
a small advantage over the player on most bets,
there are odds bets in which the casino has no edge
whatsoever, and like all gambling situations, craps
runs in streaks, and a smart player making only
correct bets, giving the house a small edge and
increasing his bets as a favorable roll moves along,
can come away from the table with a tremendous profit
over the short run.
I've seen players come to the table with $100 and
leave with $10,000. It was as though they were coining
their own money. More fortunes have been made in
craps than in any other game, and alas, more lost
as well. But players who know what they are doing,
who follow the procedures outlined in this site,
can win at this game with correct play, proper money
management, and self-control.
It's the most thrilling of all the casino games,
and it's even a great spectator game, but the ultimate
thrills are reserved for those who lay their money
on the line and play to win. With all the excitement
and speed going for it, in addition to the vistas
it holds for really huge wins, it's no wonder that
craps has many adherents, who will play no other
casino game. These people can't wait for the moment
when they arrive at the table, when the dice are
rolling and a hot roll is just around the corner.
